Bonjour! I am Erica House, the French Yogini, and I am a Kentucky woman based out of Lexington.
My introduction into the French language came from my mother and the French songs she would teach me as a child. I later began formally learning the French language in school in the 4th grade, and fell in love. Along the way I made French a concentration both academically and socially. I immersed myself in Paris, the Côte d’Azur, and outside Deauville for several years. My teaching career of the French language and culture began somewhere in between during my college years where I would tutor my peers. I later studied French in Paris, taught English in the school system in Paris and went on to teach at the Alliance Française in Boston, Mass. I currently teach group classes at The Carnegie Center in Lexington, KY. while offering private instruction in person and online.
My practice of Yoga and mindfulness would present itself in my early 20s. I rejected the practice when I had an unsavory first experience. A few years later I would begin to suffer from chronic migraine, and my progressive neurologist prescribed yoga. At first I balked at the idea, but years later would fall in love and adopt it as a lifestyle.
For over 10 years I have balanced teaching two disciplines and lifestyles that embody my essence: French and Yoga. Mais oui! As a teacher I love to share my personal experiences through anecdotes, faux pas I have learned along the way, and my personal perspectives. With a dose of humor, my classes are challenging yet accessible. I am authentically me, and in my classes I will help guide you to find confidence in your abilities.
Students make the best teachers. I consider myself a student of life. Life is worth living and loving. Let's stay curious as we step back into ourself and rediscover what sparks joy. Whether you are a newbie or seasoned student or anything in between, I will meet you where you are, as you are. Are you ready? On y va!
I met Erica when I took French 1 at the Carnegie Center some time ago. In the years since then, I have had the joy of many of the experiences which Erica either teaches or facilitates. I have taken her yoga classes and also attended some special workshops and seasonal mini-retreats that she offers. At this writing, I have gone on three retreats with Erica at the helm and am currently signed up for a fourth. They have been for yoga or French exploration, and once, included both! I even did SUP yoga, with zero prior experience on a paddle board. In all of these varied activities, the common denominator was a dedicated leader, Erica House. Each time her confidence and expertise provided what was needed in these various areas. She is warm and funny, fun but professional, caring and more than capable always.
Erica House hosted a yoga retreat at Villa Sumaya in 2025, and it was a true pleasure to work with her. She brought warmth, professionalism, and a grounded presence to our space. Her participants were consistantly happy and deeply satisfied with her sessions. We would gladly recommend Erica to anyone seeking a skilled and heart-centered yoga teacher.
